Jai Ho! Pure Bollywood Dance Party

The Jai Ho (celebration of victory in Hindi) Dance Party is an invitation to celebrate the victory of true passion over obligation by Engineer turned Performer Prashant, who is following his passion for entertainment and making thousands dance to Desi (Indian) beats across the nation!

The name “Bollywood” is a portmanteau of Bombay (the former name for Mumbai) and Hollywood. The dancing in Older Bollywood films, was primarily modeled on classical Indian dance styles, while in modern films, Indian dance elements often blend with Western dance styles to create a unique fusion that can only be described as Bollywood Dance. The signature high-energy joyful dance and song of Bollywood has iconic following around the world.

Pure Bollywood Dance Party presents a unique opportunity to experience old school retro to latest Bollywood dance tunes seamlessly blended by Prashant. A trained Indian Classical singer, Prashant will also sing LIVE popular dance numbers as part of the DJ set.

No previous dance experience necessary as Prashant (NW Dance Project, PCC and PSU World Dance Faculty) will teach a special Bollywood Dance workshop beginning at 10:00 PM.

Come early for fun dance lessons and stay late to show off your new moves on the (spring loaded) dance floor!

This Saturday, PURE Bollywood is also featuring Retro Bollywood set with MC Abhi.

This multi talented Cornell Graduate and ex- Intel Engineer is a Bollywood Singer, Dance Instructor, and DJ spinning an eclectic mix of International dance music to packed houses nationwide.

He has moved crowds across the U.S. including New York City, Washington D.C., Seattle, and choreographed dance and performed alongside March 4th Marching Band at The Crystal Ballroom and Roseland Theater here in Portland.

Bhangra is a lively form of folk music and dance that originates from the North Indian state of Punjab. Traditionally performed to celebrate the coming of harvest, this infectious music is captivating dance lovers across the globe.

Strictly Bhangra Dance Party will showcase authentic Bhangra music cultivated in two separate but interactive styles – one centered in India typically features Punjabi Boliyaan lyrics lead by high, energetic tone of vocals, the other within the South Asian community of the UK is a fusion of various Western genres (viz Hip-Hop, Reggae, House etc) with the original Punjabi tradition and is musically more complex.

BHANGRA-BOLLYWOOD:

This class offers a blend of Bhangra, a lively traditional celebratory Indian folk dance with athletic yet graceful full-body movements driven by infectious beats, and Bollywood, the energetic, fluid and mystical dance style featured in numerous modern Indian films.

A fun and casual class FOR ALL AGES and LEVELS with a great blend of contemporary Eastern music.

Instructor: Prashant Kakad

Hailing from Mumbai, India, Prashant graduated from the prestigious Cornell University in 2006, quickly landing a job at Intel as a Process Engineer. He gave it all up however to pursue his passion of bringing the wonderful world of Indian dance and music to Portland.

Fluent in numerous dance styles, he teaches dance for Portland Community College and Portland State University, and DJs at packed Bollywood dance parties in clubs locally, in New York and points between.

Prashant is best known for making dance classes fun to learn for all.

Portland, OR July 1st, 2010 — McMenamins and Bollywood Dreams Entertainment (LLC) proudly present one of India’s top Bollywood DJ’s to Portland.

Known by his fans worldwide as the Remix King, DJ Akbar Sami has been churning out hit club remixes of Bollywood film songs for over two decades. To his credit DJ Akbar Sami has created official remixes for blockbusters like Wanted, Partner, Bhool Bhulaiya, Heyy Baby, Namaste London, Garam Masala, The Train, Fool n Final etc.

In 2009, Akbar Sami took it to the next level as a producer and scored music for Bollywood movie Fast Forward. His discography includes: Jalwa, Jalwa II and Jadoo.

DJ Akbar Sami returns to the U.S. for the fourth time as part of his Jalwa 2010 Tour with stops in New York, Washington D.C., Atlanta, Seattle, the Bay Area, and for the first time, Portland.
